A new firmware update for the Insta360 Luna Ultra was released today, September 23. Version 1.1.15 adds more zoom, a dedicated mode for concerts and live performances, 4K vertical video, and a long list of smaller improvements.
The headline feature is up to 15× zoom for photos and video. Insta360 has also added support for the Ultra Telephoto Lens, which provides 1.5× optical magnification and brings the maximum zoom to 22.5× when attached.
The new Stage Mode is built for filming distant performers under tricky lighting. It adjusts exposure, white balance, and focus to help preserve highlights and colors. It also adds AI-assisted HighRes Zoom beyond 9×, improved Active Zoom Tracking, quick exposure adjustment on the preview screen, and the ability to capture Live Frame snapshots while recording. You can choose Stage Audio for clearer vocals or Ambient Audio to capture more of the venue’s atmosphere.
There’s plenty here for everyday shooting, too:
- 4K/30fps vertical video, oversampled from 6K
- Beauty Mode and filters together in photos and 4K Live Frame shots, plus support for Zoom Live Frame photos
- New 9:16 and 3:4 photo ratios
- Backpack Mount Head Tracking with automatic gimbal orientation calibration
- Quick Capture using the POV Head Tracker’s shutter button
- New 1/15s to 1/5s shutter-speed options in Video mode for motion effects and light trails
- Faster zoom adjustment with horizontal swiping
- Easier access to Guidelines and Grid, and a one-tap return to the preview using the Shutter button or Joystick
- Smoother remote previews and a new Gaussian-blur preview transition

For a manual update, download the firmware file and copy it to the root of the camera’s internal storage or SD card without renaming it. Make sure the camera is charged above 20%, then power it on and follow the update prompt. Don’t turn it off while the update is running.
Luna Ultra owners: which new feature are you most eager to try? I’m especially curious to see how Stage Mode performs at an actual concert.
